I still can't figure out what industry that town was built on? Whatever it was left a long time ago... It's like little Detroit there.

Made it to the Chevy dealership with a single tooth left in an Allison -- Completely lost it 3 or 4 times in town before getting them to mesh again enough to limp in... Lost everything but third gear about England

Like most decrepit towns in the South, it was probably the railroad. Once the interstate replaced the railroad as the primary means of land shipment in the US, the need for major railway hubs (such as Meridian) all but disappeared.

Railroads and Cotton Textile Mills, just like any other Delta region town.
