I grew up in one of these towns, graduated from schools in two others, and sent two kids through college at two more. Been to all, but ATM:
First Tier:
UGa, AU, Mizzou, Ole Miss
Second Tier:
Bama - close, but relation of campus to town is architecturally awkward
UF - lacks cohesiveness, walkability
Ark - pretty setting marred by polyglot of styles
Vandy - I've seen better Soviet worker housing than Carmichael Towers
LSU - would be in top tier except for Baton Rouge encroachment
Bottom Tier:
MSU - nothing special
UT, USC, UK - LSU/Vandy handles the urban setting better
No Basis: ATM

edit: I do know what you're saying, but that's a weird way to say it.
