re: Question for all SEC fans: Are you having trouble with football attendance?
Posted by 2Tigs on 10/15/13 at 5:34 pm
I'm not saying it is the primary factor, but it is underrated: Game time announced less than two weeks before the game. For me, I can go to a day game and get home at a reasonable hour. A night game requires a hotel. I have wasted tickets holding them hoping for a day game and failed to get the planning together when it is announced as a night game.

Honestly, I really don't need information and analysis from announcers. What I like is that Verne and I have been watching games together for a long time. He's like a good guy who has had the seats next to yours for many years and you look forward to talking with during the game.

What if realignment came to a screeching halt when Maryland either: (1) gave up, or (2) lost their court case?

re: What to do in Montgomery, AL
Posted by 2Tigs on 3/12/13 at 9:45 am
I spent my 20's traveling to Montgomery for work and staying 1-2 nights a week.
Next time try to stay downtown. That ice bar is a novelty and amusing - one time. Eastchase is chain restaurant mecca, but then again the best restaurant downtown now is Wintzell's and that's a chain, too.
There is not much to recommend; however, I was caught up on my reading.

Another variation: BLT + smoked salmon. Highly recommended
re: Realignment...B1G going after 2 more ACC schools?

When you speculate about those North Carolina TV sets and markets, don't forget:
1. UNC's board controls NC State's board. Don't be surprised if the board members are more loyal to the politics that appointed them than they are to a rivalry with Duke.
2. Duke is a surprisingly small factor in North Carolina media, even in its hometown. It may be a national brand, but cable/satellite providers only get the premium rate for carrying B1G's network within its footprint and Duke is just not important enough to spread the premium rate past the state line. Duke adds no value to an SEC network (beyond what UNC already brings).
conclusion: don't count on the SEC or UNC pulling Duke into the SEC.

When the power conference world emerges, we all agree that the NCAA's power will diminish. In fact, the power conference schools may have to pull out of the NCAA altogether to realize their football goals. Then, the basketball brands become more valuable as they are monetized through media no longer controlled by the NCAA. These commissioners have to think about several different futures.

re: Offseason thread...Nicest SEC Campus
Posted by 2Tigs on 1/14/13 at 9:52 am
I grew up in one of these towns, graduated from schools in two others, and sent two kids through college at two more. Been to all, but ATM:
First Tier:
UGa, AU, Mizzou, Ole Miss
Second Tier:
Bama - close, but relation of campus to town is architecturally awkward
UF - lacks cohesiveness, walkability
Ark - pretty setting marred by polyglot of styles
Vandy - I've seen better Soviet worker housing than Carmichael Towers
LSU - would be in top tier except for Baton Rouge encroachment
Bottom Tier:
MSU - nothing special
UT, USC, UK - LSU/Vandy handles the urban setting better
No Basis: ATM

re: Best place to eat in Biloxi MS????

Not a fan of Biloxi dining.
Mary Mahoney's is a shadow of its former self, but probably the only independent (non-casino) place to mention.

re: Tons of fresh lemons- what should I do?
Posted by 2Tigs on 12/31/12 at 9:25 am
Here's what not to do, which I tried:
Like key lime pie? Hey, let's just substitute lemon juice for lime juice. Result: bland, underwhelming - the store bought crust was probably the best part.
