So does that mean he's at least informally accepted? Why would you call a presser if you haven't gotten a firm answer?

What are you talking about? Paul reported yesterday and today that Townsend has been offered the job. He went on to say, in both reports, that he thought Townsend was "very, very interested in the job" and was "leaning towards taking the job."
You are mad because Paul won't say "Townsend has accepted the position and the announcement will be made at 5p.m.." When in reality, that's not the case.
He has to see where he stands with the Cardinals, make future arrangements, etc. It's not something that happens in a matter of minutes.

It's Mullen's annual, post-season press conference. It was scheduled even before Townsend interviewed for the job.
