I thought this was common knowledge. Bama did this for years. It definitely helped tilt the record books in their favor to a degree.

In 1972, Bama was the only team to play 8 SEC games...Auburn, Georgia, Florida, Ole Miss, Kentucky and Mississippi State played 7 SEC games...LSU, Tennessee and Vanderbilt played 6.
