Question for the rant. Late in the 3 rd quarter of the SEC championship

game, Gary made a statement as Bama was going in for the go ahead TD and had run it down UGA's throat in the 3rd quarter, that the elite teams had to run an offense like Bama. How many agree with this statement or do you think a Oregon or Aubiurn type offense can work long term in college football?

No, why would anyone? UA wasn't in an NC game from from 93-08, the teams that were ran all kinds offenses. A&M beat UA this year, what kind of O did they ran?
Recruit better players than the other teams and have a good coaching staff. That's the mystery of CFB success by and large.

When you can recruit offensive lineman and running backs like Bama and LSU can, I agree 100%. When you can assert you will with little risk of turning the ball over, owning the clock, and keeping your defense off the field and rested, it makes too much sense not too. The Spread is effective but is pointless if you can't block the defense up front and it has a bigger risk factor, but it does even out the talent level on a one game basis. But for consistant, long term success, if you can recruit dominant O Lineman there is no reason not to run an up the middle, run based offense.

The type of offense Bama employs is the one best suited to win championships. A pro style downhill running game with enough talent at the skill positions to pick up a big play every now and then...plus the threat of the passing game keeps teams from stacking the line against you every play....but make no mistake...the passing and any razzle dazzle you see once in a while is window dressing and the real meat is the run game.
You have to have a stingy stout defense that stops the run stone cold and a secondary with a lot of talent that can overpower WRs and make them quit...and LBs who stop the run and OLBs who can cover TEs and RBs. Icing on the cake is a FG kicker who can nail 8 out of 10 FG attempts from 50+ and a punter who makes it rain.

What a fricking lame, self-serving, irrelevant thread. Otherwise, great stuff.

I think we should just make every team play the exact same offense and the exact same defense as part of the rulebook since only one scheme for each is effective. We can make everyone play it and then reevaluate options for changes in 20 years.

I think its obvious Oregon type offense can. See Texas A&M. I think Coach Malzhans offense can work long term.

Your misunderstanding what GD was saying. He is saying when you can recruit the level of talent you can at Bama/ LSU/UF you can dominate teams by running the ball.
I think Ark will struggle running this offense like Nutt did at OM because you can't recruit the defensive talent up front to compete for 4 quarters with the quality of O Lineman Bama and LSU will run out there.
IMO your better off having a niche offense to offset the talent gap whether that is Spread, Air Raid or Double Wing. You just can't line up and out talent those teams.

You misunderstood where my sarcasm was directed.
