No reason we can't be a perennial top 10 team. We:
-Have top notch fan support
-Have great facilities
-Are the only SEC school in Texas
-Have a young-ish energetic coach running an offense that recruits love
-Have lots of money
-Are a prestigious university academically-speaking (not a huge factor, but it's a nice tiebreaker to have in our back pockets)
-Have a famously supportive alumni group, which is good insurance against injuries (another tiebreaker)

Then there are 3 situational factors:
1) Because of the roster numbers, Sumlin has the ability to bring in a giant recruiting class and plug some of our glaring depth holes. This will likely limit his down roster-transitioning years
2) Mack Brown is doing his best Bowden impression. Yea we aren't in the same conference anymore, but we compete with Texas for the state's best talent, so their "downness" is accelerating our rise by letting Sumlin get more talent to work with.
3) Sumlin's offense just went 10-2 in the SEC, broke all sorts of records (sorry Auburn haha), and produced the first fish Heisman winner in NCAA history, which bestows some much needed validation upon everything he's been stating about his offense.

In many ways, building a college football powerhouse is a game of momentum. We have more of that than just about any program in the country.

If you ask me, the most amazing thing is how long we bungled things and wasted all of our resources and advantages

Insert the name of any SEC school here. You just named off the most overused cliches in the conference. Now you guys see why the rest of the conference is laughing out the side of their mouths at how silly aTm is acting over a 5 place finish in the conference. Now if we gave points for male cheerleading you guys would be onto something.
