The more and more I think about this hire, the more I believe it is going to blow up in Auburns face. I really can not grasp what happened with the coaching search.

I can understand if there were more issues with Bobby Patrino than we know. If that was the case. It would be a very controversial hire for everyone except the Auburn fans who just want to win period.

I understand why Jimbo would not want to leave FSU'

I just dont understand why Kirby Smart, or Gary Patterson would not be liable choices. Better choices actually.

It really sounds like they knew who they were going to hire all along and the coaching search / committee was just a front.

Im trying to get on board but I keep getting thrown off the bus. I am sure it will be good for offensive recruiting but like most of you, the other side of the ball is where I am concerned. Has Auburn totally given up on being a defensive team again? That is our history..

Petrino was never a candidate.

Smart was offered, wanted full control and coach BCS game, we said no, he turned it down.

Offered Malzahn and he said yes. Unanimous decision, countless hours of analyzing candidates and the best fit for Auburn bull shite.

Reuben Foster and Dee Liner have come out and said they're both committed.

If we keep them and Dee Liner and the other commits and add a few when we get a new coordinator then it'll be better than any defensive class we've ever signed.

I'd say we're alright on defense for right now. Just got to get that coach and keep the commits.

at this point, the search is over. How we got to this point is irrelevant and will have no bearing on Malzahn's performance as a HC.

I think this can work out, but there are obvious issues that will have to be addressed... the next four months are crucial for this program -- put together a well-rounded staff, winter S&C program, NSD, and spring practice.

I started out very disappointed/underwhelmed/pissed off yesterday when I heard the hire. But the more I hear him speak, and the videos people have posted of him breaking down defenses and plays,I really am starting to like this hire. The guy sounds intelligent, which is way more than you could say for chizik. And he seems like he isn't going to be soft either, but the next days will prove what kind of man/coach he is to the players and over time we will see too.

And I frickin love he said we were going to get back focused on running the ball. Running back university is back.

Hopefully.

My fear is that Gus will be a 7-5 8-4 coach at best and stick around for years. Cam aint coming back, we wont sniff ATL under Gus
