It's more half true from my experience in fast food (well coffee shops). There is pressure to keep drive thru moving, but little focus on doing the same for the front. So the incentive is to neglect the front because DT is what you're going to get bitched at about.

They all have these sensors in front of the pick up windows here now.
More often than not, "Sir, we're still making your fries, will you pull forward and we'll bring it right out to your car?"
Happens half the time, and every time they bring out some stale arse cold fries that I then have to walk up to the window to have replaced. I'd deal with the slightly cold fries if they were just honest about why they made me pull up in the first place.
