You would still be behind financially, educationally, socially, economically, AND morally.

You think people in Jackson don't like to drink?
Did I say that? God you're a twat. I just spent Thanksgiving in Jackson for the 4th year in a row. Its different than Louisiana's drinking culture. Not saying one is better than the other. Half my friend group from college was from Prep/JA/St. Andrews. (I went to Ole Miss)
And whoever is saying Jackson's food is great, 3 restaurants does not make a city have great, unique food.
Soul food is solid lots of places.
Birmingham is nicer in Mountainbrook or whatever, but the city itself can blow me. Cops are Hitler youth.

. There is an element of Jackson that is influenced by New Orleanian, French Quarter style culture
Hmm, where?

The surrounding state and suburbs I'll grant you are hardcore Bible Belt, but Jackson has a certain unique culture that could be tapped into.
Then why hasn't it been tapped into?
All I'm saying is its traditional Southern culture in a large, shitty city without the draw of a small town like Oxford. It has completely lost its best residents to surrounding areas as well.
And I'd like to add again that think Baton Rouge is shitty, just not as epicly shitty as Jackson.

Actually, I'd say ahead of LSU and marginally behind Alabama.

And you're right, hardcore Jacksonians love their city and see the potential, but there is a crime problem, the city is a majority poorer African Americans and most of the middle class has fled to the suburbs. The leadership has lacked vision, and the leaders that do have vision don't have any power. The city council is an absolute joke.
So you agree its shite currently. Good, we agree.
I never said it didn't have potential. I think every city that has residents with money (Eastover, Madison, etc.) like Jackson does, it has potential.

This, but it'll never happen. Smaller budgets, smaller alumni base, and MS recruits not qualifying are three issues that come to mind for me.
If MS changed its grading system to that used in Alabama we would be more competitive. Alabama schools graduate kids that would flunk out in MS schools

Back to football,
LSU has the unique location of not only having our entire State to ourselves (#1 per capita NFL'ers), but we also are adjacent to the talent pool of Texas and Mississippi where we poach kids every year.

When recently has the top rated recruit in MS left the State?

I grew up in South Jackson. Lived there my entire life. Attended Millsaps College. I now live in Madison. I know a little bit about it. If your friends went to JA/Prep/St. Andrews then they most likely came from families with money who lived in NE Jackson/Madison. You're hardly getting a full sample of what I'm talking about with them.
Look I know Jackson is a shite hole. I got the frick out. But if there had been a large flagship university there for the last 50 years you don't think it might have turned out just a tad bit differently? Ok. Agree to disagree.

A lot of schools have changed the grading system.

our good players go and play for Bama and LSU
LSU hasn't pulled many players from MS in a while, actually. Jalen Collins is the exception. Ken Adams played JC in MS but is actually from AL.
Jeremy Liggins was from MS but didn't qualify. Chris Garrett was from MS but transferred after blimping up.
This year we are pulling two from MS JCs, but Leslie is from Georgia and Stokes is from AL.
So there you have it ... other than Jalen Collins, the last player I can think of from MS is Stevan Ridley (and he is from Natchez aka LSU country).

I don't think anyone has ever made that argument.

Alabama has pulled a couple but it's a tired and stupid fallacy on here that MS' best players go elsewhere. Since Nutt and Mullen came around 08/09 the top players have stayed in Mississippi.

I think Shon Coleman was the last one now that I think about it.

Auburn had a pipeline going for a while. Alabama has plucked a few.
Really a TON of academic casualties litter the Dandy Dozen over the years. Lots of headcases.

Will Arnold (woodville or centerville aka LSU country)
Travis Dickson (Bay St Louis aka LSU country)
But that's all I can think of.
