It's cyclical, but there are a select few schools who, historically, have weathered the storms with success - pretty much the ones he listed. Alabama has been a national power since Calvin Coolidge was president. They hold slightly more than 1/3 of all the SEC titles and they do hold the NCAA record for most post-season appearances and wins, as well as the most poll-era national championships. That kind of success takes a century to build, but the legacy it leaves puts those schools in rarified air. It's part of the reason Mike DuBose and Mike Shula, both notorious imbeciles, could go 4-7 and still got a top recruiting class

BamaStepL is right in some ways. Only few schools do it and aTm is not one.

Only way to attempt to get on that level is to dominate texas and ou for an extended period of time which is unlikey but stranger things have happened.
