I live in Mobile and drove to the Bama/Michigan game in Dalllas via Lafayette, La. Other than the Atchafalaya Basin between Baton Rouge and Lafayette which is kinda neat, the entire drive is pretty ho hum. The interstate stretch between Lafayette, La and Shreveport, La eclipses the stretch between Mobile, Al and Montgomery, Al as the most boring stretch of interstate I've ever been on outside of Kansas, Oklahoma, and the Texas panhandle which amazingly were even worse.
I see people making the distinction between I-20 through East Texas and interstates in the Deep South having more farms and that's true. However, that doesn't mean the South doesn't have similar stretches. Highway 80 that runs from the Mississippi/Alabama border thru Montgomery that merges into I-85 on through Auburn is very similar to I-20 in East Texas. That's the Blackbelt Region of Alabama which is one of the most fertile farming areas you'll time anywhere.
I-20 between Birmingham and Atlanta and I-65 between Birmingham and Nashville are MUCH prettier stretches than any drive in East Texas though.
