The difference?

1. Every game is relevant. Even if you compare "doormats", Kentucky would beat Kansas by 50 and Auburn would destroy Baylor.

2. Television. 3 years ago, I lived in Ft. Leavenworth, KS (Big 12 country). Without a special sports package, I was able to see 5 of our 13 games on television. At Fort Bragg, I've been able to watch every single game this season without even needing to stream. Even 2 years ago, I could only get 5 of our 13 games here at Bragg (couldn't even get the ARKANSAS game on TV here).

3. Exposure. You win in the SEC and you're all they talk about. Just today on CFB Daily (ESPNU), the only Big 12 team they focused on was K-State. They talked about Alabama, us, Georgia, LSU, and Florida extensively.

I was alluding to the fact that many of your fans preseason claimed that the SEC wasn't really that much better top to bottom than the Big 12.

Do you believe now?? DO YOU?!?!
The top of the SEC is much stronger, but the bottom isn't. Kansas is worse than any SEC team, but the 7-9 teams would probably 3-0 UT, Auburn, and Kentucky.

Kentucky would beat Kansas, but not by 50. Baylor would beat Auburn by 2 touchdowns. Baylor's defense sucks, but a few tackling dummies and a stiff breeze could move the ball more efficiently than Auburn's offense. Iowa State would also be 7-2 if they had the Grinders' schedule. They would probably finish 8-4 (perhaps 9-3, but I would consider Ole Miss a mild upset), but the same thing can be said about Moo State.

And Mizzou would be hurting just as bad in the Big XII. They wouldn't beat KSU or OU and they would probably split or go 2-4 against Texas, Oklahoma State, TCU, Tech, Iowa State, and WVU.

The difference between the conferences is at the top to the middle. If you matched up the bottom of the conferences, they match up very well, if not tilted slightly to the Big XII.

As for the fan bases, I honestly don't think it's all that different, but the SEC is on a much bigger scale. The amount of fans and amount of money involved is increased exponentially.

The hate is also a lot less..... real.

Obviously each fan base has its own flavor, but I'm sure with time I'll be more familiar with the SEC fan bases and be able to draw more and more similarities between you guys and them.

Baylor was wildly delusional and is the only fanbase I actually find legitimately pathetic. They would talk crap to us like they owned us, yet they've only beaten us twice since midway through the 80's. They also can't seem to face the fact that they can't fill their stadium. All 6 of them are convinced their fan support is awesome.

Texas best described in 2 words. Arrogance and entitlement. When I was in school (but a few years ago) I didn't like them, but I honestly never really hated them until about a year before we announced the move (2010-2011, my senior year). The way they handled the whole LHN, Pac-12/SEC expansion, and the almost collapse of the Big XII honestly sickened me.

Tech is weird. It seems every year they do something that I legitimately respect them for, then they follow that up with going back to their usual trashiness. They're dickwads, but I do respect them in an odd sort of way.

I know several OU people and almost went there myself. Pretty good fanbase overall. Very vanilla in pretty much every way. Their fans on average are not overly obnoxious, but not overly nice either. They're incredibly generic, and their band plays Boomer Sooner way too freaking much.

Oklahoma State was desperate to have some sort of football tradition and tried much too hard to artificially create them. Of course, Tech was guilty of that too.

Never really dealt with the North teams much. Not much I can say about them.
