I don't think there's ever been hotseat talk as far out of proportion with reality as there's been with Jones. Obviously he can frick up and put himself right out the door with a bad season but the reality of the situation is far different from what the media and fans think right now. Expectations and pressure won't change but whether or not to pull the trigger and fire someone is a much more complicated matter.

It might be different if we were in an era where there were tons of talented coaches proven to be better but the reality is that there aren't and those who are e.g. Saban, Meyer, etc. aren't leaving their current positions. And tempting a coach to come play Saban every year when he has a shot in another conference to make the playoffs from any P5 conference makes things a helluva lot harder.

LSU's move last season should've taught everyone that lesson. They are a comparable program with access to a deeper vein of in-state talent. They have O because the only one available and worth taking a chance on was Herman. LSU thought they'd be the only big school on the market and had Texas fired Strong before LSU fired Miles, I doubt LSU would've made the move they did (Miles would still be there because there just aren't that many worth risking what they had for). The coordinators O has are legit and LSU has more than enough talent to run on steam this season but I guarantee you Orgeron is not the guy anyone wanted to hire but the one they felt they had too when Herman fell through.

We'll get called homers, but the hot seat talk is bogus to me.

Jones has the 3rd most wins in the SEC over the last 2 years behind only Saban and McElwain. He's also finished back to back seasons ranked in the Top 25 for the first time since the 2003 & 2004 seasons and has won 3 straight bowl games. First win over Florida since 2004. First win over Georgia and Florida in the same season also since 2004. Does he have things that he needs to improve on? Absolutely and he needs to continue to take the next step, but the hot seat talk that he is getting is over blown in a big way IMO.
