Yeah, I think Sumlin realizes this, but in order to be even moderately successful right out the gate, he had to make do with the players Sherman had recruited to survive a big12 slate. Even though A&M fell flat in 2011, the talent was there to make waves in that league. Moving to the SEC with big12-caliber players, the only way to keep things competitive is to supercharge your offense and hope the D hang on for the ride until they catch up talent-wise. I think he's done a pretty good job overall with that, and the defense has really stepped up in a big way compared to last year, in my opinion. SEC-caliber defense? Not there yet.

This.
You have to fit the scheme to the players you currently have. You can migrate to something in the future, but if you try and fit square pegs into round holes, its going to fail.
