RG, always wondered...What is your fascination with the Pripyat Ferris Wheel?

Family ties to the area. Mother is Ukrainian, but from Stoyanka west of Kiev nowhere near the CNPP. Cousin was a liquidator(group assigned to "clean" the radioactive areas). I got to take a tour a few years back. It'll put things in perspective.

LINK
Check out this link when you have time. She is a chick I used to blog with several years ago. She is a sportbike head like I am and she used to ride through the hot zone and take pics of things before the public was allowed access to the area. Pretty fascinating stuff.

Kiddofspeed? She was with a tour group. I mean, the pictures are amazing, but that was when you had random companies giving unsafe tours. The one I took was awesome, but we didn't go in any buildings.
ETA: Yup, just clicked the link. There was a big "scandal" over her photos.
I don't have a link on me, but Graham Gilmore and Firesuite photography have some beautiful shots.

She used to hit me up for money on the reg so I had to cut ties with her. She even asked if I would be interested in a mail order type bride setup
ETA: But all in all she seemed like a pretty cool girl

lolwut?
Her dad was some bureaucrat. That's really odd.
You just ride street or do you mess around with dirt bikes? I used to do some weekend motocross from time to time.

This is a pic of her. She would tell me her bike was broke down and it was incredibly hard to get parts in Ukraine, which I believe. She said that was her only means to survive by selling pics that she took. She gave a very convincing story but my wife would have killed me if she found out I was sending money to some chick in Eastern Europe

She's pretty well off by eastern European standards from all of the stuff I've seen on pripyat.com

No. Strictly street bikes now. Grew up on three and four wheelers and never owned a dirt bike. I have totally a ZX10 Ninja and YZF1 though. My latest is a Suzuki Hayabusa that I got new in 2006 and it still looks like it just left the showroom. I only do recreational riding on it though. Stay on the Natchez Trace a lot

Hopefully she is doing better financially now. This was maybe 8 years ago when I would talk to her online.

I've ridden an R6 once. I'll never get on another street bike. I scared the shite out of myself on it.
I grew up with dirt bikes. Hare scrambles were my personal favorite. I've got one bike left now (unless my dad sold it). KTM 250. Orange beast.

Uhhh, it wasn't that kind of talking. We only talked about bikes and nonsexual things. I was already married at the time.
ETA: But if you want to know all the details I have always been interested in Eastern European history and my minor was in Russian Studies. Try to follow along Gump. I am an avid collector of Soviet war memorabilia and found her site while doing some research on Soviet military equipment graveyards used by the liquidators, who were the first to try and contain the blast from Chernobyl, eventually pouring the concrete sarcophagus over the reactor. Her site interested me and I started correspondance with her. Sorry if these details won't interest you

Derek Dooley hair and Eastern European mail order brides...what is this thread about?
Posted on 10/10/12 at 11:43 pm to Rebelgator
Here's your ferris wheel from about 9 years ago. She said it was perfectly safe to be in the open air but it was the buildings and trees you had to avoid. Anything wooden or concrete/stone just absorbed radiation and retained it. Probably explains why wildlife has made such an incredible return to population and humans still can't stay long.

The gf is trying to talk me into sporting the Doolander's hair style. Whats to it?
Posted on 10/10/12 at 11:48 pm to MaroonNation
It's fascinating how the radiation dispersed. There are random arse spikes all around there. The radiation around the bumper cars is nearly lethal, but 5 feet away is almost clean.
We walked around in regular clothes for the tour, but it was typical cold weather.
