I'm planning on driving up to Columbia early Saturday and am planning on being there for game day. Have heard the colonial life arena is good place to park. Couple of questions. How fast will parking go? What kind of traffic should I expect? And what time should I try to arrive in Columbia?

The arena isnt anywhere near the stadium. Dont know if there are shuttles. Traffic can be a bitch.

Is it on the horseshoe? If so ya. The horsehoe is their central quad. The arena is kinda off campus, but next to it.
ETA: Im going off memory, my sister went there but I only visited once.

Games been secretly moved to Charlotte, but they are keeping it hush, tell all dawgs to head that way.
J/K The Gameday show is at the Horseshoe, so most students won't need to drive there. Those that do drive in probably have garage spots near campus. The Colonial Life Arena lot should be pretty open on a Saturday morning, but will fill up around the early afternoon as fans come in.
There is a shuttle that goes from the Arena to the Fairgrounds (right beside Williams Brice Stadium) and I think it's just a couple bucks.
If you are trying to get to the beginning of the Gameday show (9 a.m.) I don't see anyway that the Arena parking lot is full before then. The Horseshoe is about 3 blocks east of that location.
You can go to the Gameday show and then head down to where you parked your car to catch the shuttle to the stadium. The shuttle will pickup at the same spot it dropped you off and return you to the Arena parking lot...just with a UGA loss.

Eat at the motor company or whatever that place is called. Straight fire. Also had a great dinner at a wine bar that was right across the street from out hotel. There is nice restaurant scene in that city.

I also would like to know, for those of us who are making the trip to columbia but don't have tix to the game .... would it be recommended to just go downtown to watch the game or are there any places around the stadium (bars, restaurants) that would be okay?

Go to the Vista or 5 points to watch the game if you are not going in. Although there should be plenty of folks with TVs at their tailgates as well.

There are no bars around the stadium... So downtown. If you want to party with college kids go to 5 points, if you want a slightly older crowd go to the Vista.

Parking at Colonial Life arena is a good plan -- for Gameday; not the game itself. It's maybe a 10 minute walk - about 4 city blocks.
Should not be much traffic at all coming in on Saturday morning.
For those without tickets, best bet to catch it on TV will be the Vista. My first choices would be Liberty Tap Room (in the bar; not the restaurant) and Wild Wing. Or, you could go to the stadium and find a tailgate with a TV.

Is parking free at arena? And how far of a walk to actual stadium?
Posted on 10/3/12 at 5:07 pm to ugastudent
It's student parking, except when there is a basketball game or concert. Should be free.
Long arse walk to the stadium -- about 2 miles.

yes they do have shuttle buses to and from Colonial arena however its much more than a ten minute walk to Williams Brice. More like 30 minutes. You can find much closer parking near the stadium of course closer you get parking is more expensive. The tailgating experience at Colonial is not that fun. Park closer and feel the electricity in the air and be with all the other tailgaters.
