Scenarios that get us to the Cotton Bowl against tu.

I don't care how ludicrous they are, but I'm going to assume that if it is even reasonably close, and there is a team from the East that should get billing, the Cotton Bowl CEO takes Texas A&M. tu needs to finish third in the Big 12 I guess, assuming OU doesn't cake walk its way in to the Natty. Iunno.

I definitely think that's where they will end up, which leaves it on us. We would have to win 9 games I think. 8-4 (4-4) is way too much of a stretch. Winning 9 games will be quite the tall order. I firmly believe the next time the two teams meet though will be in the Cotton Bowl.

A CB matchup would be epic. And I have no doubt that the bowl organizers would move heaven and earth to try and make that happen if push came to shove. Here's hoping we do our part--not necessarily because I'm just dying to play the sips, but because it'd mean we had a much better season than I was expecting.

I think if they fall to 3rd in the conference behind WVU and OU, then they will end up in the CB and if that is the case then they would love love love to have the Ags in there at 8-4(4-4) or 9-3(5-3).
I however am not sure Texas or the Ags don't fall further down the ladder, and end up playing in the Liberty Bowl.

"Son,
You're off at school, you got new books, new wheels, and 10 hot chicks in every class. And you're worried about your home-town ex?"

If there's 10 hot chicks in class, that means there are 3 ugly ones. Arkansas and who else?

I think that would be great but don't think it would happen. Dodds is too much of chickensh@t to allow a rematch this soon. He would do everything possible to avoid it IMO.

I call BS. Each one of you would give your right nut to play texass in the cotton bowl and stick it to them. Every Ag would.

Actually, I'd rather wait to play them until we've had a few years to mutate into an SEC power. You see, we'd beat them if we played today...but I don't want to just beat them, I want to humiliate them.
Notice that I did not word that statement incorrectly. I said "mutate", not "evolve", not "grow".

I can get behind this line of thinking

No, no I wouldn't. I still consider them a rival and enjoy the recruiting head to heads. But I honestly don't care about playing them in a bowl and "sticking it to 'em".
We've moved on. We left them. I suggest you do it as well.
Maybe it's because I'm not a Texan

I'm all for moving on but you cannot deny that a cotton bowl matchup wouldn't be HUGE, especially if we are good enough to make it there in the first place.

that's not fair. Vandy is really smart. And Kentucky has a great personality.

If I had my way, tu wouldn't even be a possibility in terms of bowl opponent. I'd rather them fall to a lesser bowl, and us put a beating on a team that already beat them. To me that would hurt their pride even more. I still have a terrible after taste in my mouth from the qb scramble that never should have been. We need a few years (and a lot less posts about tu) before we play them again.

Personally I don't really care. It would be cool if it happened but it would be fine if it didn't. Not much for us to gain out of it unless we kill them, the more we let them fall into obscurity the better though. It seems like every time I hear a story about Texas they are mentioning the SEC or A&M.
That said, it doesn't matter what we think. If the two teams are remotely close to being qualified for the Cotton Bowl the powers that be will move heaven and earth to make it happen. It's a guaranteed sellout of Jerryworld at whatever price they want to charge. Both conferences will want the match as well, it's a fantastic story that would be great PR.

One other thing to think about. The A&M/Texas rivalry will continue, it's just a matter of time. It is not just about football it is ingrained in the very culture of our state. The thought of my boys growing up without honestly is just sad to me, not butthurt, just sad. We are the flagship schools of the state and we should play just like they do in every other state. Some dickhead KState Alum that runs the AD in Austin should not be able to destroy 118 years of history just because he got his arse handed to him politically by A&M. The rivalry is much bigger than any of us.
Taking a few years off is fine but the rivalry will continue. The more we keep it without skipping years the better. Think of it this way, had A&M and Texas not taken a break 100 years ago from playing it would be the most played rivalry in all of college football now.
I will say this though, people talk about rivalries but I don't know that there is as much sheer hatred between the schools as A&M has with Texas. I always thought Auburn/Bama was just as bad but reading the Rant those folks are civil with one another unless they are talking about playing. They even root for each other in Non Conference. Aggies and sips simply are incapable of carrying on an internet conversation without heavy smack talk, we are just too hypercompetitive and the feelings are just too strong. I would root for the Nazi/Al Queda All Stars to beat Texas. They will do absolutely anything they can to keep us down as well. The hate is just incredibly deep and honestly almost unhealthy.
I can play by the rules on the Rant and keep conversation about Texas out of it because it has no place there though. Folks on the Rant just don't get it. They think it is Aggie obsession when in truth it is more sip obsession at this point. They can't let go even more than we can. It boggles me living in Austin how much they talk about us (of course about how we are going to fail or how we are obsessed with them). They talk more about us than their own school. Yet I know if we bring it up the butthurt comments will always flow here. The great thing about sips though is they can't handle being ignored. The more you ignore them the more they can't stop talking and looking like idiots. Just watch that Grove video, they never even talk about their own team and they immediately start asking about A&M.
