The Official Fire John L Smith Thread

1) He's an embarrassment
2) He's senile
3) He's a terrible coach
4) He's a lame duck anyway

The quicker he gets taken down as the face of our program, the quicker we can start the healing process. IDGAF who is promoted to HC for the rest of the season as long as it's not Paul "air it out with our 3rd best QB with a lead against ULM" Petrino.

I think that all your criticisms existed at the time of this hire, which was widely lauded by some Hog fans because it would keep the status quo.

At the time of the hiring, numerous posters suggested that Hog fans should temper their expectations. Those posters were ignored and ridiculed.

Truth is, the Hogs lost their best 3 defensive players, Bequette DE, Franklin LB, and Thomas S. This was off of what was a good for ARKY defense that was below average in the SEC. Combine that with the loss of three NFL receivers and your HC, who functioned as playcaller and you have a situation that no reasonable person could consider was an improvement over the 2011 team.

But Hog fans irrationally believed that the return of Knile Davis and home field advantage v. ALA and LSU would be worth say, 40 points per game and would be outcome determinative. Davis thru 3 games has been a shell of himself, your QB is concussed, and your defense couldn't stop JSU or ULM.

Now you have a lame duck leader who was hired to keep the status quo, who is not empowered to change anything. This dumpster fire can only be salvaged by Tyler Wilson, who has to be able to contribute by actually playing QB. Otherwise, this season looks lost.

Precisely. Not to mention, firing the interim as a knee jerk reaction won't get anything done. Chances are, the reality of the situation feels much more dire than it actually is, and things will level off. What would hiring someone else fix? If they promote someone from within, that person should already be stepping up and offering leadership. If they hire someone from the outside for 2 months, they still have another new coach to get in addition to the new interim...not to mention, a whole new rapport must be built. If that coach fails, will he be fired too?

Sometimes people have to sit through a mess before it gets better. Alabama was preseason #3 in 2000 and went 3-8. That wasn't fun. People knew this was a very real possibility, and because it's coming true doesn't justify a knee-jerk reaction. It was an awful situation to walk into.
