Not really. I have several friends who are in DO school. They were the average chemistry and biology majors who would have gone to any MD school in the nation but no one would take them. There are 138 MD schools in this country. If you can't get in to one of those, I don't want a less intelligent DO operating on me.

You can't predict who will be the best Dr. Most of the highly intelligent kids in Medical School, aren't functional. Its like predicting your 5 star flops, when you see all these 3 stars in the NFL. Its not where you go, its what you do where you go. Yes, I know some DO's, and if I was having surgery, thats who I'd go too. Its about trust, when you go under the knife, not the plaque on the wall.

While my experience with DO is good overall I have come to the realization that these are the kids that lacked the connections and political clout to be accepted at a lot of the medical schools in the country. Typical medical schools are the last to hang on to the GOB network of admissions. Most admissions at UMMC are "connected" kids, kids of UMMC MDs, politically connected kids and your typical terrorist subplotter types. DOs usually didn't go to the right prestigous prep schools or belong to all the undergrad organizations to have their applications accepted.
