Not even a little. Smart is a great defensive coach but I see McGarity going and getting a proven head coach at a smaller school rather than going the coordinator route.
And I'm not a huge fan of hiring a guy just because he coached under someone else. It was all the rave to hire all of Belichek's assistants and coordinators and all have pretty much been failures. Same with Saban disciples. And the heavy hitters within the AD and the big money guys aren't going to want Smart after he played us a few years back.

Good points. Dooley, Muschamp, Fisher haven't really set the world on fire. Plus Weiss and Crennel were miserable failures as head coaches. Smart moving into a small school position would probably be best for him and for his ultimate gig, if he turns out to be talented as the HMFWIC.
But what about Richt? Is this his last year, if the season goes south?

It was a lateral move and while the fans may have taken it personal, a smart AD knows it was just business.
