The real reason is that his defenses have revolutionized the use of pattern reading coverages against the increasingly complex multiple offenses in the college game.

He didn't invent pattern reading, but many of the aggressive zone schemes that you see out there are byproducts of or are heavily influenced by Saban's defenses.

Yeah you are right. Couple the pattern reading with the front 7 applying pressure out of multiple packages and you get quick, indecisive decisions from the quarterback resulting in an easy day for the secondary. Hence why Saban is so adamant about how his defenses "affect" the quarterback.

As has been mentioned, Saban was a defensive back in college. He also works specifically with the defensive backs during practices. The style of defense Saban runs leaves the corners on an island constantly. The DBs are very physical and often are challenged in 1 on 1 situations. I think Nick Sabans defensive backs have been much better at Alabama than they were when Saban was at LSU. Marquis Johnson may be the best example of a what a good DB coach Saban is. I know that names means jack shite to other SEC fans, but Bama fans know what I am talking about.

Corey Webster, Laron Landry, Randall Gay just to name a few have all done good in the NFL. So No he has not been better at Bama he has always done good

Saban's mug em' if you can works well in college. Those same backs are having problems BAC pedaling and with basic coverage techniques in the pros.

Dude really? I guess you forgot the reporter when Nick was at LSU that told Nick he knew absolutely nothing about defense and bet Nick he could not teach him anything in 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, the reporter knew ins and outs of basic coverages. That's what makes him great, his ability to break shite down so even dumb asses get it.

I know it's been a while (both since the incident and since the post), but is there a link for this? I like the story, and I'd like to see more about it.

Thanks.

I guess that's why at least four DBs from just his Alabama teams are starters on Sunday now.

It's funny how many gumps come out of the woodwork to answer some arbitrary question about the program. lol.

The old joke that there really isn't anything else to do in that retched state holds up well, doesn't it?

He took a walk-on RB (R. Johnson) and guy who was only given a scholarship by Shula for his PR ability(Arenas) and made them both All Americans.

After that I was convinced.

Ask ND how good bamas d-backs are. Also ask them how throwing at the All American all game worked out.
He is the the goat.

It's a sports forum, and you're posting in the thread idiot. Please try harder next time, these kind of replies actually make me embarrassed to be part of the same species.

Your honor, I call into evidence Kareem Jackson, Shad Johnson and Javy. No way they make it to the next level but, hold on, wait for it...
