I want to say it doesn't make a difference, because I selfishly want to see all the goods, but I think it has two distinct advantages:

1) Keeps your players focused on the task at hand

2) Keeps personnel problems private (what happens at practice, stays at practice)

3) Keeps everyone from knowing Jabba the Weis coaches from a cooler.
