I'm of the belief coaches are judged on their body of work within one sport. the NFL and NCAA are both football obviously but completely different. I don't think any less of Carroll, Saban, Spurrier as coaches just because they bombed in the NFL. Who's to say Belichick would dominate in college football, I'm not sure that's a guarantee.

This is on the fringe of what I am arguing. I will respond, but I will reiterate that your plan for the next hire is not the proven formula for high level success. Recruiting monster classes is.

With regard to this thought that they are two separate games, even if I grant you that. We have Walsh and Harbaugh that can win in either place. Carroll too. I'm not sure how he qualifies as bombing out as his first run while decisively average wasn't ruinous and his most recent run has been pretty impressive with a playoff win with that dumpster fire of a team. He would have won that division again if it wasn't for, how about that, another college coach to the NFL guy putting a helluva run together. on the civility btw.

Saban is a Master in the College Game, not so much in the NFL as H.C. He was a great Defensive Assistant Coach in the NFL.

agree so far obviously - he's been great at both Stanford and with the 49ers

Carroll too

very meh in the pros - the Seahawks look like they are going nowhere fast. he was obviously unbelievable at the college level from 2002-2008 (which I think speaks to him being a tremendous recruiter and putting together a great staff early on at USC)
