I have to drive to someplace like City Market to get beef that comes close.

City Market is pretty good, I was there three weeks ago

Gulf War or Bayou Brawl. Can't wait for this game to get going again as it was more fun than the sip game when I was in school (89-93). LSU folks can be annoying as hell when they get their vandalism on or walk on the MSC grass (why can't people understand it isn't about tradition, it's a MEMORIAL TO SOLDIERS THAT DIED AND THE PLACE WE HOUSE 7 MEDAL'S OF HONOR).

As for BBQ I have tried it all and no one can beat Texas BBQ because it is the most diverse and difficult. For me you aren't doing serious bbq unless it is absolutely fantastic without a drop of bbq sauce. You can add sauce if you wish but you don't need to. THAT is real bbq. It takes real skill to properly smoke a beef brisket but if it is done right it is sheer heaven and you don't need to do a thing but enjoy. I personally also like Mesquite over Hickory (though both are good) and spicy over sweet. Nothing wrong with some pork bbq smoked with hickory and a bbq sauce filled with sugar but anyone can make that.

I really don't get SC bbq. My Mom's family is from there (just got back) and I have tried it many times and still can barely stomach it. That mustard/vinegar sauce is just nasty. I just don't get it.

BTW, pulled pork is nice and all but it just isn't impressive to me. In Texas the sliced beef is the premium and the shredded beef is just the leftovers mixed up with some sauce to give it flavor. Pulled pork just has the same feel. It's tasty but it's not something I would ever claim to be great bbq.

Ribs are the universal btw and done well all over. Kind of hard to screw them up and the difference maker is the sauce. Texas is the only place that seems to do beef ribs but I'm not a fan, they aren't bad but they almost don't taste like bbq.
