part of me thinks a ban is warranted. I have nothing to support this but my thoughts are that Paterno and Admin knew, and let it go to keep it on the down low, hoping it would go away and the image of Paterno and PSU football would be untarnished. Once that happened, the slave became the master so speak and Sandusky had leverage and the furthering the cover up became even more necessary to protect the image that was PSU football. If that is true, take football away and let value of the program come back to reality. Much like the hazing incident for the FAMU band. In reality, I wouldn't support a ban though, It's too isolated of an instance. Paterno is no longer with us, Sandusky is in the big house (and I don't mean Michigan) and he doesn't make it much past the bowl season anyway and the other Admins involved are going to get jail time. I wouldn't support it for an SEC school either - as long as it was a non-football related/NCAA matter and criminal proceedings prevailed.

PSU can be punished but it has to come from within. The school needs to remove everything that has Paterno on it. The alumni should demand some program or attitude or something that will make it right again.

Even if they do tht, there really is no justifiable punishment here...and that is the sad truth.
