I think this may be one of those "hey, everybody I know smokes weed, ergo everybody must smoke weed" situations.
Brings to mind the famous quote (or misquote some say) by New York socialite Pauline Kaehl in 1972 after Nixon beat McGovern in a rout: ""How could Nixon have won? Nobody I know voted for him"
