For lunch, look up a place called Kairos Kafe. They have a location a couple miles from the UAB campus and one in gardendale that's also open for dinner. The food is fantastic and it's relatively unknown, for the moment at least.

I like Kairos ok, it's right down the road from my house in Gdale

Taziki's is better in Mountain Brook, or like I posted earlier Fish Market downtown also for Greek and fabulous seafood you gotta try it and you can get a cool vintage Tshirt
