UA has always had the "grassroots" support to be a great program, or at least in the modern era of football. It was already well organized before he arrived. At LSU he had to organize it, at UA it was waiting for orders.

UA's greatest advantage is they will get behind any coach as long as he wins.

this was an incredibly important step in the evolution of alabama football in the bcs era and in saban's success in tuscaloosa.

for the first time since coach bryant, the alabama bot and admins were actually willing (b/c they were forced to) to put the football program almost entirely in the hands of the head coach. no micromanaging from donors, board members, the good ol' boy network or from people who considered themselves to be big daddies of the alabama football program.
