Cool sh*t.
I'm thinking the letter was written around 1980 as the letter claims 6 championships with the latest one in 79.

Some peculiar stuff in that letter.

Actually it read like he dictated it, which in those days, he probably did. It had a very informal tone consistent with speech, not writing.

Come on bruh, you know me. I know this has probably been posted here.
I'm taking note that Bear said Bama had 6 NCs in 1980. Now Bama has 14.

Every Bama fan knows Bear was a humble man and had great humility. He didn't wanna make yall feel that much worse by mentioning the others.

Probably why he was loved, though still feared and respected, by his players
quote:
if I can’t, I’ll recommend you get a job, join the Army, or join the Foreign Legion, but, in any event, to reside in another state.
Odd wording but is seems he is basically saying if he (Bryant) can't then no one can (at least in the state of ALabama).

Coach Bryant went to his final rest not hearing Brother Atcheson's sermon. If so, perhaps the 'amen' would not have been unanimous, we'll never know.

This may not be properly understood nowadays but it must be remembered: the 'everyone should win a trophy...kumbaya" mentality was not only foreign at that time, I'm not sure if it had even been conceived yet.

Well said.

The degree to which you comment upon the things that Alabama or its fans do that bother you is absolutely mind boggling. I just don't understand why you can't let Alabama be Alabama, right or wrong, and focus on your own team.

Sigh...you people.
Take another look and you will see that those are the six National Championships that Coach Bryant won while he was the head coach at Alabama.
Someone deserves a big DUH

It doesn't say that. It's official letterhead of the University not Coach Bryants' tenure. Atcheson didn't make changes to SIG till 1986, according to Museum Curator Watson. Not a flame. Simply saying that's the way it was.
