Though if I'm remembering the time between Stallings and Saban correctly, the big punchline was that Alabama had become a mid-tier team, and, to hear some (including some in the media) say it, would never be anything but a mid-tier team again.

This was 'proven' by the fact that, until Saban, only one person had the heft to win a NC at Alabama since 1979.

Fallacious logic on Spurrier's part is fallacious.

Funny how thats the only part people hang on to. The very next question in that interview was who was the best coach in the SEC and Spurrier answered Saban so I don't think he was taking a shot at Saban as much as people think he was.

I see your point but Spurrier did say he couldn't really ever outrecruit Bama. And again, I'm pretty sure he was half-joking.
