Not my gameday but I'm going to throw Baker's out there. Excellent bourbon to drink neat.

Used to drink Jim Beam black label in my younger days. Now go with Knob Creek. That, my friends, is damn good on the rocks.

Anyone that says "JD is bourbon" is an idiot. Describe the shite out of it all you want - it's never going to be bourbon. Anyone that knows anything about booze knows this simple fact. I like JD. Gentlemen Jack is a nice treat after a long day for sure but it will never be bourbon.
To those of you who like Woodford (which is actually what's in my decanter right now) or similar bourbons in that price range (like Makers and such) - I strongly recommend you try the bourbon that I posted up earlier = Basil Haydens. You will not be disappointed

Agree Blanton's > Woodford's. Especially during racing season.
I'm gonna guess you mean during Horse Racing. If I'm right I can see why. Those nifty little tops are down right awesome.

Knob Creek is indeed tasty. Blanton's is orgasmic.

Disagree.
They're gross.
Kinda strange, but being from KY I don't know anyone who likes them.
I have a really nice pewter mint julep cup engraved with my name and all that I've never used, maybe I'll use it this year just to say I did.

I drink the Creek but haven't tried the other two...
So which is better:
Basil Haydens
Blanton's
Knob Creek

I enjoy quality bourbon, but I'm just out there to get hammered on gamedays. Evan green and sprites until I piss myself in the wee hours of the morning.

ETA: technically not bourbon, but close enough

Right there is part of your problem! Silver julep cups are made for this specific drink. it also helps if you have an old family method with the proper items and methods.
Never buy one of the things they serve at CHD, as those are totally gross!

Maybe it's silver. I have no idea. They paid a pretty penny for it, I know that.

Id be shocked if you didnt like the julep I make. Even the ladyfolk think they are tasty.

I thought that was the market for those types of drinks.

Kind of depends on you. Knob Creek and Basil Haydens are both made by Jim Beam inc. Knob Creek, to me, is a little to full bodied and does not have the flavor the I enjoy in a bourbon - it is usually like ~100 proof I think. Basil haydens is a light bodied bourbon and, for me, is much more suitable for drinking it straight (on the rocks of course). It sits at the bourbon minimum of 80 proof and has a bit of a spice to it. Im not familiar with Blanton's but it sounds good.
