I gathered from the AD's comments that it came from University funds.
I may have misunderstood, but if it didn't come from the Arkansas ath dept, what was the reason to reveal that?
Full disclosure, it was going to come out anyway and if you didn't notice that was the theme behind this entire scandal...
The AD was being upfront and releasing all the information the general public was going to find out anyway...

ESPN said that the money came from Bobby, not the school.
Then I misunderstood. But then why did the AD feel the need to reveal this?

Either way I believe it's a NCAA secondary violation, although I think coaches just have to go to a rules re-education
well, technically that was one of the things that got Galen Hall in trouble in 1989. Supposedly he was giving money to assistants out of his own pocket.

Then it shouldn't be a problem for good ole Bobby Motherfrickin Petrino... his schedule has cleared up a little bit.

The real answer is to help the school win the pr battle. The worse BP looks the fewer angry hog fans there are due to the decision.

Richt just got in trouble as well

This was before she was on his staff, another reason for the revelation as there isn't anything to hide because it isn't a NCAA violation in this case...

Wasn't there a coach that recently got in trouble for giving his assistants a bowl bonus out of his own pocket?
It was Richt wasn't it?
It was Richt wasn't it?

It sure sounds like it would be. I THINK (can't remember for sure) that Richt got some secondary violations when he paid all his assistants a little extra out of his own pocket.

Didnt Spurrier just get told by the NCAA that he couldnt give money out of his own pocket?

by no means do I think this is an NCAA violation. I was just throwing out Galen Hall at Florida in '89 who was paying assistants some money out of his own pocket--which is a weird violation.
Its just the AD mentioned this more than once which if she was paid from Petrino's own funds IMO didn't need to be revealed other than to make Petrino look worse that he already did. Seems rather spiteful.

She wasn't a member of the staff in any capacity at the time of the payment.
No violation.
If it really was going to be a problem, all petrino had to do was give the money to her dad anyway...

Maybe it was a "you embarrass me, I'll embarrass you" kinda thing?

she should give that cash back, only fair.

She wasn't a member of the staff at the time of the money exchanging hands, this "relationship" had been going on for a while, long before he hired her a couple weeks ago...

based on his demeanor last night...I'd say that is a possibility

Didn't know that. Then what was his excuse for the payment? How did he justify paying some random 25 year old 20K?

Did they give a date when the payment was made?

It was his own money, I didn't realize the University is suppose to be monitoring his bank accounts and flag large cash withdraws for further questioning...
