Coach Bryant was 68 when he stepped down at Alabama.

Bryant was 68 but he had the appearance of a man who was 10-15 years older. I think Saban has a lot more left in the tank. If you look at Saban, he doesn't look like a 60 year old man. He looks like he's in his late 40s, early 50s. I won't be surprised if he keeps coaching for 15 more years. The only thing that might stop him from coaching for a long time is lack of motivation because of his dominance like Tom Osborne at Nebraska.

That was entirely my point.

As a quasi-Nebraska fan, I don't think those last five years of dominance made up for 20 years of misery. I think he more than likely stepped down for family reasons and to pursue a political career.

Chesterfields and whiskey take their toll on a man over time. As evidenced by his death soon after he retired, football was probably all that kept him going towards the end.

Saban doesn't smoke, probably only drinks socially, and keeps in pretty good shape for a man his age. Age still catches up to everyone at some point though. When it catches up to him he is going to have to start to delegate more, retire, or put a lesser product on the field. You know he won't tolerate the latter option, so it will have to be one of the former two.

...or his quest for a second conference championship at Bama is unfulfilled.
