Q: What SEC coach has the hottest seat going into the year?

A: Derek Dooley, without question. He did a solid job in year one, but had a rough year last year. That was in part due to injuries, but the Kentucky loss really tightened the noose.

Q: What would he have to do to save his job?

A: Those at Tennessee have made it pretty clear to Derek, if he doesn't get to 8-4, he will not be retained. I think Tennessee's talent level is being vastly underrated, though. With that schedule, if they stay healthy, 8-4 is very reasonable. I think they have a good chance of getting to 9.

This was from a radio interview he did. He's one of the best media guys out there. There's been a lot of talk on VolQuest about this, but I think 8 wins is the correct benchmark to set.

If we don't win a ship, send him packing.

I agree with that, with 3 NFL WR's and an NFL QB we should win 8 games

Joker's seat may be just as hot. Should he start Herp Derp Newton over Smith and incoming frosh Patrick Towels it could get OH LAWD kinda ugly in Lexington.

He shouldn't have been retained last year. They're basically wasting a valuable year during a rare time when Florida is down. Good job, Tennessee.

Troof.

Unless a 7-5 record is achieved with one of those wins being against UGA or Bammer (UF and USCe maybe? )

8 is asking too much at this juncture. 6 or 7 should get him an extension so he can continue building the program.

I could understand someone arguing about 7 but 6??? No if he goes 6-6 with our schedule his arse should be gone. Plain and simple

He isn't coming back if he doesn't get to 8-4, but I'm not 100% sure he'll be back with 8-4, either.

Just took a look at the schedule...

NC State - Atlanta
Georgia State - Knoxville
Florida - Knoxville
Akron - Knoxville
Georgia - Athens
Mississippi State - Starkville
Alabama - Knoxville
South Carolina - Columbia
Troy - Knoxville
Missouri - Knoxville
Vanderbilt - Nashville
Kentucky - Knoxville

I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for 8-4. That being said, I don't think Tennessee will do it. They'll go 7-5.
