Holland will start over Cass. Not a chance in hell we start a true freshman at MLB over a junior.

This. And the last time we had a can't miss LB prospect, we redshirted him as well.

I seriously doubt we'll be starting a lot of freshman next year, if any.

Doesn't mean they won't be playing significant snaps, but they won't be starters.

Agree we have a lot of depth there now. Delanie,Sigler,Carter,Owens, plus the starters this year. We'll be able to sub in a lot of fresh guys though.

So if Carl and Reuben are dominating in practice they don't deserve to start because they are freshman? I guess holland starts over foster next year

We're better off now than we were at this time 2 years ago on D. And we'll be better off at this time next year than we are right now.

I wouldn't be surprised if some of the big names in this class got redshirted, just to make sure that we can get as much eligibility/playing time out of them as possible.

Right, forgot Whitaker was just a junior. He looks and talks like a freaking 10-year NFL vet

And I could see Lawson taking over DE opposite Ford later in the year if he's as good with pads as he is without.

If Holland has a good year this year, they aren't just going to hand the starting job over to Foster if he performs well for 4 weeks of fall practice.

Carnell Williams came in and wasn't even the starting RB until the UGA game of his Freshman year.

Nick Fairley didn't consistently become the dominate force that he is until his Junior season, and that's because Rocker got on his arse.

Foster, Lawson, Liner, etc. are all incredible talents, but they'll have a steep learning curve (even if Foster is at every practice this fall. He still has to play HS football this year, and has those practices as well) and they also will have to deal with the fact that for once, they won't be the best players on the field.

I'm just saying don't be too quick to appoint them the messiah, otherwise we'll look like LSU fans with Mettenberger, who is supposedly greater than JLee and JJ, yet only played in mop-up duty last year.

Obviously if they are the best they'll play. But it's easy to say they'll come in here a dominate when they're in high school and have 5 stars by their name. I don't see Lawson coming in and taking Craig Sanders' or Justin Delanies spot.

If they were to come in and absolutely dominate to the point that the coaches had to play them, then that might happen, but it's so rare that that ever happens, and I highly doubt that happens, especially with Lawson, with the experience we'll have on D. You have to remember, they're dominating against high school kids, not SEC players.

I'd probably guess MLB and CB.

In 07, we didn't really have much of a choice except to start those 3, and they had their growing pains that season.

Mike LB is one of the hardest positions on the D, because you are the QB of the D. You're calling plays, noticing everything that the Offense is doing, how they're lined up, helping players get in position, etc. It's asking a lot for a true freshman to come in and expect him to be able to do that from day 1.

My point is that holland has just as much experience as cass right now in this BVG scheme... Cass is bigger and most likely faster and stronger...

Don't really know how rare it is. Holland didn't RS and a host of DL guys played as true frosh including Sanders solely as a special team guy. Just because they might not start doesn't mean they'll RS because of special teams.

Remember, Frost and Coates were set to play last year before injury and Blackson & Wright probably should have but was needed.

We'll obviously see.

Is he smarter though? Can Cass get players in position when they're not where they're supposed to be because he recognizes that the TE is going to find a seam because the weakside LB is lined up in the wrong spot on the field, and be able to get him in position in time?

Experience, any experience, at the college level goes a long way. That's why I'd rather have Moseley than Wallace as our backup at the start of the season: because Moseley knows what it's like to play against the best teams in the country, and knows what it feels like to get beat up every play and have to get back up (until you twist your ankle on some field turf and cry about it)
