The strange thing was there wasn't anything but a light sprinkle at my house in Springfield the night of the Joplin storm. That was surreal seeing all the warnings from Joplin and south of town but it just split around where I live.

That's the weirdest thing about big tornadoes IMO. It's insane how so much destruction can be so close, and you barely see a drop of rain.

I know. I live between Springfield and Battlefield (south side) and I was smoking ribs when my brother told me that Joplin had just been destroyed. I went inside and The Weather Channel was showing rough footage from Joplin. It looked terrible.
I thought oh shite, this monster is definitely headed toward Springfield. Most storms roll right up I-44. I tried to get my guests into the storm shelter, but they kept making margaritas saying, "Don't worry, we're fine." I said, "Are you effing watching The Weather Channel?"
The skies were a bit green and the wind was gusting, but it never came. Instead, it headed southwest toward Branson which was an abnormal trajectory for storm to take. We dodged a bullet for sure.
