Totally different situations. Bama won the 1 vs 2 matchup in 78. Today, people are suggesting that LSU will win the AP if they lose a game designated as a championship. Dont think that has ever happened. But this is an odd year.

Against a team they beat on the road.
Should LSU lose, they will still have the most impressive W-L record of the year. That has been stated by several AP voters.
Odd year, yes, in that there is a re-match of #1 and #2.
I don't think you would argue if bama and LSU had the same record, played ONE time, with bama being the victor, that bama should be voted #1.
That's USC's argument in '78.
