No. The Hilton Garden Inn is on South Peters.
From there EVERYTHING is within walking distance... the Quarter, the Dome, the streetcars.

The general advice of the OP is fine, I guess.
However, there's so many people in town that pretty much anyone will be okay walking around the Quarter, Downtown, Warehouse District, at pretty much any hour and in any numbers, through Tuesday.

That is what I said Rex!
when he said convention center i was thinking being that the garden inn is not on convention center blvd like riverside is, well kind of.
