Couple of late night whiskey thoughts, LSU 2011 D is more like '92 Bama D

than 2011 Bama D is... This isn't a better or worse comparison, but more about which is more like the other in comparison.
Bama '92
1. Ran a 4-3
2. Had a solid Playmaking Defensive Line.
3. Had a ball hawking secondary.
4. Had LBs that left things to be desired.
5. Got a lot of Defensive TOs & TDs.
LSU '11
1. Runs a 4-3
2. Has a good defensive line (sorry LSU, they aren't Curry and Copeland)
3. Has a ball hawking secondary.
4. Has LBs that leave things to be desired.
5. Does seem to get a fair share of Defensive TO's & TDs
Bama '11
1. Runs a 3-4 or variation (most of the time).
2. Has a good, but not great DL. Whose job is not playmaking, but engaging/taking up Olineman.
3. Has a stingy, disciplined secondary, but not so ball hawking.
4. Has LBS that leave nothing to be desired and make you pay in every way possible (from TO's, sacks, to TFLs)
5. Although 'll Bama D does get it's fair share of Defensive TO's and TD's... it relies more on getting off the field on 3rd down, completely shutting down the run, and forcing QBs and WRs to make mistakes by "affecting" them with presence. I.E. This Bama D may not force as many turnovers(and in turn give up as many big plays), but it is consistent in stopping the opposing offense.
Just some food for thought.

Saban runs a 3-4 at Bama because he has yet to be able to recruit enough bodies for the D-line for him to feel comfortable returning to his 4-3 roots. He is adjusting to his personell as any good coach will do, but I think that at some point he will return to a 4-3 look.

Alabama's base in '92 was the 3-4.

What? You're saying in 4-5 years he could not manage to recruit athletes to run a 4-3? You must be high. Saban recruits who he wants. He wants to run the 3-4 , and so, he recruits for the 3-4.

This^^
In 93 or 94, Coach Stallings made the change to the 4-3, though I never knew why.

I should photo shop a mule (arse) that looks retarded (dumb) trying to frick a pinata or something for times like these.

Or maybe, he could take the time to do a Google search and he might find the video that Al.com posted today of Saban giving the reason why he runs a 3-4 defense and has him explaining it

Really? I won't argue. I was only 11 at the time, and didn't look it up. I just always remember Curry and Copeland making the plays, not the LBs. And with a 4-3 the DEs tend to be playmakers, but with a 3-4 the LBs do. And I barely remember a LB off of the '92 team.

Lemanski Hall
Antonio London
Derrick Oden
Andre Royal
Michael Myers too, but he was injured I think, a car wreck I believe. Not sure how many games he missed but seems like he missed the Sugar Bowl.
I cannot remember who the starting Nose Guard was though.
ETA: I just googled a 92 roster and it has James Gregory and John David Phillips listed as NG, but I can't recall which was the starter. Seems like I can recall both of them playing.
John Walters & Victor Lockett and a cpl others were also LB that season.
And Dabo was a WR.

Are we sure Bama played a 3-4 that season??? I don't remember, but seems more like a 4-3 to me.

Obviously you can't understand the difference in comparing things that are like one another to saying one is better than the other.
I'll give you an example.
I think Celeste Mountain Citrus flavored Soda and Mountain Dew are very much alike, although Mountain Dew is better. However, Coke-a-Cola is different, yet it spanks the pants off of everyone else.

I believe so. Been a lo.g time and many brain cells ago, but I'm pretty sure they did play a 3-4.

Like I said earlier, I was young and I really don't remember, facts would be much appreciated on this.

I'm about to crash. I will try to remember and check in the morning. If I do, I will bump the thread.

He loves the 3-4. It's his baby. It creates matchup problems and is not common in college football right now so offensive linemen aren't used to the blocking schemes necessary.

Not only is a mule not an arse, but they are sterile and don't frick.
When trying to say someone else is dumb, it helps to get your own shite straight.
Here's a clue: Try "Donkey".
