Anyone else hearing CBS has approached ESPN asking to move the game to primetime? It wiuld still be on CBS, but ESPN would have to sign offon it and move all their SEC games to the noon slot.

CBS has contracts with other programming in those timeslots. They are not moving the game.

And if they did, they would not have to ask ESPN.

yes they would. they would need ESPN's permission to air a game in that time slot.

Why would CBS need permission from another tv station to air something on their own channel at a particular time? Would they need to ask NBC?

The only thing I've heard is that Gameday is going to be there, and they are coming down a day or two early, to broadcast from there during the lead-up week.

They would certainly have to ask ESPN.

And yea, they just touched on it briefly on the Roundtable on JOX. It ain't happening though, don't get your hopes up. That said, we'll know Monday if it's even a thought. Come Monday CBS will either set it as a 2:30 game or use up a 6-day option, to try and work something else out.

You for real? Might have something to do with the contract CBS and ESPN have with the SEC?

CBS only gets 1 prime time game a year. It was Bama UF. ESPN gets all the other SEC prime time games. So if it were moved to prime time it would either need to be aired on espn, or have espn give them permission to move it.

This may be a stupid question, but has ESPN ever done 'Gameday' at a game that CBS is airing?

I really hope CBS is able to make it into a prime time game. The ratings will be huge either way, but not as huge as a prime time game would be.

the tv contract with the SEC, ESPN, and CBS gives CBS the right to air ONE primetime game a year which they already did this year. In return for CBS getting first choice of all SEC games weekly, CBS cannot air another game at that time that would compete with ESPN's choice of game for the week.

Plenty of times. A more recent example was last year's Alabama-South Carolina game. Gameday was there and it was a CBS 2:30 game.

Is the one prime time game in their contract? I was under the impression that CBS got first pick weekly and that the time was dictaded by the networks.

Yea typically do it once or twice a year. It's less frequent now than ever though as ESPN as a whole has become more about advertising themselves than ever.

they get first pick weekly and their game is always at 2:30 except for the 2 times they can show a double header. Their doubleheader schedules are:

2:30 and 7:00

11:30 and 2:30

they can only do each one ONCE.

I am pretty sure that there is talk behind the scenes in making this game a prime time game if both teams are 8-0 going into the game. Thankfully, there is a bye week before the game that will give the networks additional time to maybe work something out.

I highly doubt it would happen.
