A bunch of us are making the trip up to Knoxville this weekend. Any advice from those who have been there on where to go and what to do as far as tailgating, bars, restaurants, etc..?

Chandler's deli off Magnolia Ave for the best soul food/country cookin you will ever eat.
Old City for bars.

Hit Calhouns on the river. Check out the Vol Navy come in and eat some decent Bar-B-Q.... Walk up the hill and hang around the Gate 21 area for call in show and Vol walk.
We park off the strip behind walgreens Big green F250 with tents. We will be watching some early games and drinking a few cold ones. Look me up. I will give you a beer man.
Looking forward to this game. I don't have a clue how it is going to turn out. We could get blown out or we could win. Either way going to have a good time.
Take care

Go to either Ruth's Chris or Calhouns on neyland drive, you can walk to the stadium from there, and both have deals on gamedays

Not for the thinned wallet (usually I only go there for the B-days), but easily my favorite dining ever. You go for the steaks.

No it's not, but we only get to go there every other year when we play there, but well worth it IMO.

Keep in mind I'm a college student, so low budget. What are the bars gonna be like at night? Covers?

A few "must do" things I learned on my trip in 2006:
Calhouns
Enjoy the river & Vol Navy
Get there early enough to tailgate
Sit by people you know. The stadium should hold about 85K, but they just keep making the seats smaller. It will be tight. Also, it is steep. Don't fall in the upper deck. I asked an usher about it and he told me they have at least one person fall and roll every game. UT fans help UT fans, which means your arse will just roll and get laughed at. I saw it happen. It was funny.
A few "things to avoid" I learned on my trip in 2006:
Try to avoid kicking FGs when you have it 4th & goal from the 1. Might come back to bite you.
Try to have enough speed on D so that if you get a pick you dont' get caught by a slow QB (I'm looking at you Simeon Castille)
If you buy a cigar to smoke after a win, but don't win, then do NOT smoke the cigar. You'll be in traffic for a couple of hours and might be steaming from the loss. Chances are you won't be thinking clearly and you will inhale the entire cigar in about 15 minutes. This won't be good. Trust me...especially if you aren't a smoker any way (which I"m not).
Hope you find the advice helpful. Enjoy the game.

Gatorhata I'm a student so I'll give a rundown of where to go as far as bars go...
Goal Post Tavern (usually pretty busy, older crowd)
The Gnome (some weirdos but a solid happy hour from 9-10)
Tin Roof (always has a live band and usually a solid place to go. Pretty sure they eliminated their cover charges)
Cool Beans (Behind First Bank of TN and good specials)
Half Barrel (lots of good beers on tap)
Hannahs (if your into underage girls with fake id's and loose morals)
I left out all the 18 & Up bars. I dont think any of the mentioned bars require a cover

I think since football season started back up Tin Roof started charging cover again. $5

I can live with that. But places in Tuscaloosa charge up to $20 on game weekends which isn't worth it any way you look at it.

The parking along the river surrounding Cahlhoun's is home to some of the best tailgating I have ever done, so I would recommend that. I would also advise you to arrive there early enough to get a good parking spot on the river. You'll have a guaranteed good time.

who owns that Calhoun by the river anyways? locations, locations, locations. I bet he's making a shite load of money.

I don't know but you're right about that. Every game I've been to it's been absolutely packed. One of the best tailgating scenes in the country
