This changes periodically. Alabama has been raising the standards in the past two years due to hitting the population goal 4 years earlier than Dr Whitt set. This is not indicative of anything other than each university trying to attract students or not exceed the ability to house, teach, etc.

I expect the difference to continue. Whitt's strategy of driving applications from out of state students has been brilliant, IMO. Got to give props to the guy and it definitely has AU's attention.

Entry standards for the two schools aren't materially different. The average student at AU probably has higher average scores because of the engineering program.

Probably the best explanation I've seen. Engineering and other technical fields have always been Auburn's strength academically and those students tend to have slightly higher ACT scores than the average applicant.

I think Auburn's close proximity to metro Atlanta is a HUGE plus and they've done an excellent job of recruiting in that area and Georgia in general even to the point of being the 2nd most popular choice in the area after UGA. The HOPE scholarship has in a weird way help Auburn more than any other non Georgia school IMHO.

Somehow seems wrong for a public University in the state of Alabama to turn away local students, chasing the almighty $.
