I think Ole Miss did the right thing in firing Cutcliffe. He was not a great coach. With the talent Ole Miss had, they should have been a lot better.

Cutcliffe inherited a fairly good, and improved, program from Tuberville. He had a Superbowl MVP quarterback and could not build a team around him. He ran the program into the ground. I'm not saying Orgeron was better, and Nutt isn't all that either, but Cutcliff did nothing for the program.

I think it's time he does leave the SEC. Unless he can pull rabbits out of the hat, I think this will be his last stop in the SEC.

Yesterday I actually started thinking the same thing. Even his mannerisms are getting annoying and watching what he's doing is a repeat. I think I can understand how arky fan feels.

Houston had three nfl running backs (one of the cover of NCAA 08 and the other on the cover of this years Madden) and took them to the cotton bowl and lost.

The thing is though, we showed that we've got the talent to have really fricked BYU sideways. Our DEFENSE actually played really good football against a very talented and capable BYU offense.

DC, I'm not being a state fan trying to flame here but I watched a different game. I saw a game where BYU did what it wanted to and even with a QB that had an off game. Ole miss had no business being in that game. I will say your Defense is improved but is that really saying that much? Secondary looked good but I'm wondering about how your Dline might do against a physical run team (LSU, Bama).

Offense is just suffering with Qb woes. Is Mackey suppose to be better than Stoudt? Stoudt looked better than Brunetti. It sucks for UM if Bolden is going to be out for the year.

DC Rebel is right on track, Nutt will call the plays, take credit for when they work and then blame assistants when they do not.

Ole Miss' hires since Cutcliffe have been improvements?

That has nothing to do with him being fired. Yes, the Orgeron hire was bad, but that in itself doesn't justify the "Cutcliffe shouldn't have been fired" argument.

I also think that, given our situation at the time, that the Nutt hire was a bad one. Yes, I don't think he's a great coach, but I'm not stupid enough to think that he hasn't improved our program while here. I do not think he's going to do any better than he has, though, which is why the Rebels should look elsewhere if the economy/coaching landscape seems like it would work out in our favor.

Yeah, I'd say that firing was a mistake.

Your only somewhat decent argument is that he wasn't given enough time to "rebuild" a quarterback position he had been recruiting into for, what, six years or so.

Also, you know little of his firing. He was asked by the AD to fire his defensive coaches after his final season (our defense was also horrible in 2003 when we went 7-1, we just got lucky enough and had a good enough offense to win games). He refused, so he was fired.

And I don't by for one second that David Lee's calling plays. I know Nutt says he was, but come the frick on, what's with him calling all the timeouts and shite if he's NOT the one calling plays.

Yeah because Bobby Petrino didn't lose the Sugar Bowl or anything...

Oh wait, ya did, to a bunch of cheaters. Arkansas blows dick in bowl games. Everybody knows this.

They couldn't establish a great running attack, nor did they get many yards after catches. That's about what any defense can hope for against their offense.

They scored ONE offensive touchdown. For a team with their offensive line, quarterback, and receivers, I'd say Ole Miss did pretty well.

Bolden's done. Chipped ankle bone they're saying. And Stoudt looked much better than Brunetti. It frustrates me that the coaches couldn't see that in practice.

You know what sucks, he's gonna talk about how close we were. He'll point to Stoudt's fumble, Brassell's dropped touchdown catch, and so on. He'll talk about Bolden's injury (which is horrible for us and Brandon) and use that as some sort of excuse. He'll talk about, I dunno, ropes and chinstraps and stuff.

An Ole Miss Fan who gets it.

hahaha

Yeah, never mind the fact your football program sucks. Lets dwell on Arkansas being bad at bowl games.

Could you imagine what Boise State would have done to yall yesterday had you not pussied out?

Nutt wasn't calling the plays last night. I know this for a fact. I was standing within 20 feet of him for large portions of the game. Nutt would hear Lee call down the play from the headset and Nutt would pass it on to Ratcliff on the sidelines who would signal to the QB on the field. And using him calling TO's as proof isn't a very good argument. David Lee can't very well call TO's from the coaches box.

Nutt should give an official word on Bolden in his Sunday teleconference. Pretty sure that will be around 2-3 pm.

Yes, the buyout is $6M. Do not be shocked if we have that already. I've heard rumors that there's more or less a Vaught Society escrow account in place holding money for this type of thing.)

Add another 2 mill to that to buy out Nix, plus severance for the rest of the coaches, plus have some left to hire new staff and assistants. You are looking at way more than 6 million. And you have already pumped the boosters for your BB arena and wanting to raise more for stadium expansion. Face it, Jimmy Sexton dug Fortress Nutt in Oxford and it will be hard to drive him out. And save the Ole Miss doctors and lawyers crap, because half of those did undergrad at State and are signing their checks with maroon ink
