University of Arkansas junior running back Knile Davis sustained an injury to his left ankle during practice Thursday evening and is expected to miss the 2011 season.
"I am extremely disappointed for Knile," UA head coach Bobby Petrino said. "He is a captain who was incredibly focused on the upcoming year. His leadership throughout the offseason was significant in the development of this team. Our athletic trainers and medical staff are the best in the country, and Knile's mental toughness will be an asset to him during the recovery process. I am fully confident in the mindset of our running back group and their ability to perform."
Early statement from Petrino. Nothing definitive yet on extent of injury.

Just got the text from ESPN...that is going to hurt the flagship, but I am sure they have a few more 1000 yard rushers

I do feel bad for the player though

That's HUGE for Arkansas and their offense. I really hope the guys injury isn't too bad an is recoverable very soon.

They won't admit it, but it really is a massive blow to their chances.

It's huge. He was a leader. However, we DO have DJ. I'm hoping that Wingo really shows his worth, like he did in the aTm game last year.

It is not a massive blow to the teams "chances". DJ isn't chopped liver. TW going out for the year or some of our O-Line=massive blow.

Dennis Johnson is pretty solid. He was actually supposed to be the starter last season but he got knocked out at the beginning of the second game last year which paved the way for Knile to eventually start.

Ronnie Wingo is the only one with in game experience and he is more of a receiving threat than runner. He is as big and almost as fast as Knile but dances around to much in the backfield where Knile goes straight to the hole.

The other guy is Kody Walker who is a true freshman.

We already have another running back, Broderick Green, who started 3 games last year, between DJ and Knile starting who is out for the season as well with an injury.

I am still gearing compound fracture. Key will be to avoid infection before & after surgery. It is entirely possible to come back from this, but added obstacles (infection) can cause career ending results.

Please keep us updated on what you are hearing Hog fans. I really hope I am hearing wrong and it isnt compound fracture.

Thoughts & prayers with Davis, his family, and gis support group as he fights toward what we all hope is a full recovery.

OK hog, you can't have it both ways. If you have ever said or typed or thought that Kniles was one of the best backs in the league then you cannot follow that with it's not a massive blow to the team's chances.

If you don't see that then maybe one of your more astute pig brethren will assist you.

ETA: I hope he heals as well as he possibly can and he's able to play again.

I'll admit that it is a huge blow to our team as much for his leadership qualities than his performance. You have to remember that we also lost Broderick Green for this year back in the spring. I still have confidence in DJ and Wingo, but they will have to step up their game exponentially for us to have the sucess that we, as fans, anticipated this year. We'll also probably have to pull the Redshirt off Cody Walker and possibly move someone else to the backfield for depth.
