The Mascot FEAR Factor: Mike the Tiger!

I heard a really interesting piece from one of my die-hard Bama buddies just awhile ago. One of the line coaches at the school he coaches football for, John Causey, use to play on the O-line for the Tide back in the day. He recounted a trip to Tiger Stadium, and having to walk past Mike the Tiger before the game started. He stated words such as 'never been so scared in all his life as this 400-pound cat looked him dead in the eyes'. Mike, according to him, simply sat there, staring, and started flicking his tail, as if to say 'keep moving u t-bone steak bitch'.
Also, in this telepathy moment, he remembers thinking in his mind, and saying to Mike, 'if you dont eat me, and let me play this game, I promise I will never walk by your cage again'. In return, he swore Mike said back to him, 'you know these bars can't hold me right? They are just for decoration.'
Just listening to the retelling of the story, I could tell the guy was still scared $hitless to this day, but he appears to have a nice experience to reflect on (now that it is over)
It beckons the question: Is there any team mascot out there as awesome as Mike?? Imagine THAT happening to at least half the visiting team. I'm sure Mike has added to our stellar home record in his own little way

Was that dude on shrooms?
No, but seriously that's a badass story. (Not sarcastic)

Meh. I've been to the zoo. Big cat looks you in the eye, you get a lil chill of fear. Then you realize it's stuck in a cage and just laugh as you go on about your life.

have you had a tiger roar at you from 5 feet away?

Tiger? No.
Lions and bears? Yes.
Either way they're the ones that let some nerd throw their arse in a cage for the rest of their life. Hard to respect an animal so easily whipped.

I am a Bama fan and live among all you Tigah fans.
I have heard an old story about Bear Bryant telling Mike the Tiger to shut up as he was roaring at the Bama team preparing to come out of the tunnel. The tiger backed down from the Bear as the story goes. Anybody heard that before?

I know exactly what you are talking about. In fact, my kid and I play that game all the time (where you start a story and the next person adds on with a sentence or two) so here goes:
"I have heard an old story about Bear Bryant telling Mike the Tiger to shut up as he was roaring at the Bama team preparing to come out of the tunnel. The tiger backed down from the Bear as the story goes. But then, as Bear is walking by, he breaks out the cage, and bites off a leg. Doesnt kill bear, just maims him, so he can remember who his daddy really is, and that tigers dont run away from Bears."
Who knew Bear Bryant had a fake-a$$ leg ever since then?

For your information, Socrates, Mike the Tiger doesn't "live" inside the cage that he rides around in on game day.
Mike is taken care of by the LSU College of Veterinary Medicine, and lives in his OWN "PRIVATELY PAID FOR" 5,000+ s.f. tiger habitat across from Death Valley that includes his own pool, savannah grass, food trail, climbing and scratching structure, shade trees and oasis, and exercise walk.
As a cub, Mike was the family pet of the owners of Great Cats of Indiana Tiger Sanctuary, until he got too big and was placed in regular sanctuary care. He was DONATED to Louisiana State University and the owners have been invited down several times, honored, and remain a part of LSU and Mike's life.
Mike's cumulative time per year in his football game vehicle: about 21 hours (3 hours per game x 7 home games). That is from 2 hours prior to kickoff till about middle of first quarter, when he is back in his palatial digs across the street.
Do you have ANYTHING between those 2 red elephant ears of yours except Tide and toilet paper ?????????????????????????????????????????????

You ever seen a tiger spray piss on people that were 5 feet away.

It's a really cool mascot. Bevo and that Buffalo at Colorado are pretty cool too.
I'd be more psyched by a rattle snake though.

Okay. Lemme get this straight: You would be more afraid of a rattle snake (and to make things even lets just say he is in a glass cage thingy) than a Tiger in a cage?
