The committee recommended the approval of three new members and six from the current board, including the controversial Bobby Lowder. Lowder, former chairman of Colonial Bank, has served on the board since 1983 and is opposed by a growing number of alumni.

He isn't gone yet, don't count him out. I don't know how he does it.

The existing trustees can continue serving until they are reappointed or their successor is appointed. However, in no event can they continue serving for more than 1 year.
For those who expressed their dismay over the Lowder reappointment, Bobby will be too old to qualify for appointment next year. Therefore, because of the Marsh decision, Lowder is beginning his last year on the AU Board.

Alabama Senate President Del Marsh said Thursday that he is blocking action on a slate of nominations to the Auburn University board of trustees, and will seek to restart the selection process later this year.
Did anyone read the article? Lowder isn't "gone", but it looks like he isn't "there" either.

and yes this is a trick question.....

Actually.. he might be there longer than his term is for.
On the flip side, it's been way overdue for influential Au supporters to do something and it's good that some finally are.

He said the existing board can continue to meet while the new process is conducted, and that delaying the nominations even into 2012 would not cause accreditation problems for the university

Bentley cast the deciding vote for Lowder, which quickly drew media scrutiny because of a $25,000 contribution to his gubernatorial campaign from Lowder’s wife.
Is there a reason the Gov. of Alabama keeps this shithead on the board? Is it just to piss of AU students, alums and fans?

So does that mean he is there for another year and then he is gone for good?
If this is the case, this is a win for Auburn. Better to have him for 1 year than 12, or however long those appointments last.
Grats to the Auburn family for finally getting rid of this black sheep. Your university will be far better off with him gone.

25K donation to his campaign. The Lowder family has spent tens of thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands on political contributions over the years.

Because he's a megalomaniac that believes the football program belongs to him, and is a scumbag.
