But if the coach leads the Rebels to a disastrous 2011 and the school wants to fire him? That would cost the school about 10 times as much - $6 million.
Nutt's contract, the highest-profile of the four coaches' contracts partly owned by the private UMAA Foundation, is a window into the deals struck by athletic director Pete Boone. They're full of sizable, success-rewarding incentives - but also expensive for UM to break.

Even if Nutt had another 4-8 season we wouldnt fire him. Most of Ole Miss loves him...just look out for the rebels in 2012

Otto: Despite your thievery, we are prepared to buy it from you right now... in cash.
[opens suitcase of euros]
Jan Wolfhouse: Big deal. A suitcase full of monopoly money.
Schlemmer: Come on, those are euros.
Landfill: What's that, like pesos?
Otto: That is legal European tender!
Rolf: I told you we should have brought Deutsch marks.
Gunter: But they are so hard to find!

Agree, and as long as he keeps losing to the Dogs every year, I'll keep reminding them that it will cost them an additional $2M each time they don't extend his contract.
Sexton ... at his all time BEST but wtf was Boone thinking

Not really. There are more that support him than there of those that don't. If Ole Miss was to fire him after this season....there would be more pissed than relieved. Plus Ole Miss would be retarded to fire him.

Everyone hates on Boone because he's a "penny pincher" but if you look at what we've done in the past decade, facility wise and coaches contracts, you'll see he spends more with our budget then just about anyone else with a similar budget. His problem is his bonehead decisions like the East Side suits, building the video board too close, building the fedex building too close, giving Nutt and Nix so much money. But in his defense, everyone wanted the Nutt and Nix contract after
09', not just Boone. Yeah in hindsight it was dumb, but there wasn't any bitching when it took place
Edit: Though that is the job of the AD, to forsee certain problems that other people cant. Thats what he's paid to do. To make good decisions with the athletic budget. Even if something is popular like keeping Nix or bowling in the NEZ it is the job of the AD to predict future problems with the decision. If he doesnt go through with something popular due to future problems then the fan base should realize in 3-5 years that he was right and made the correct decision. That has not been the case with the East suits, video board, fed ex building, or the Nix/Nutt contracts. But he did a fantastic job with the baseball field, SEZ expansion, baseball video board (loved how he bought the baseball team a new one and gave the softball team our old one when they were bitching about needing a video board), track complex, IPF for both football and basketball, and seems to be doing very well with our new arena. He's not a good AD, but he's not as bad as people make him out to be.

Yeah...people got to remember that Nutt was given all these contract extensions after the 2009 season. Then we were coming off back to back 9 wins seasons...something Ole Miss does once in a blue moon. I don't blame Boone for trying to keep a coach in Oxford that was doing that. And the FedEx Building wasn't built from the ground up. That building was just remodeled. That building was there way before it became the FedEx Academic Facility. The video board is further back than most think. You could technically tear down those bleachers and bowl it in and still add another 10-12 rows....which is all that would be needed in that endzone anyway.

So, if y'all don't go to a bowl and lose to State for third year in a row, does Boone pay the $6M, piss off a majority of fans, start a coach search ... or stand pat (and pay the additional $2M for not extending the contract)?
There is the third option of extending his contract again (saving the $2M) but sure can't see that happening.

Ole Miss CAN'T keep firing coaches every 3 or 4 years. That would be the dumbest thing if Ole Miss did that. If that is what we will get the reputation of....we won't get nobody to come in and coach the program.
