Our middle relief is very bad. This is very noticeable compared to last year because of the next fact I've noticed, a far more concerning one
We cannot hit the ball with runners in scoring position. We just can't. Our hitting in general just seems incredibly sporadic.
Another observation, other than Varnadore, there isn't anyone on this team that can get the job done consistently when ahead in the count 0-2. I cannot comprehend the sheer amount of times I see basehits out of 0-2 counts. Just disgusting.
We are very inconsistent in all areas of the game right now. Our impressive wins just don't seem that impressive anymore, and we are reeling.

I think Coach "Pawl" is a dieing breed.
He's a great hitting coach, but the days of gorilla ball are over. They were 10 and 6 years ago when they first reduced the bats, and they are even more now after the last change.
They are basically swining wood bats now that have a smaller sweet spot than the much debated hickory bats.
IMHO, it'll ruin one of the few things college baseball had going for it, but arms are in high demand.
And just for the record, the arms in the state of Alabama either go pro or go somewhere else. The best two arms I have seen are at Pelham and Bibb, and one is going to MSU and the other is going JuCo in hopes of getting drafted after his first year.

Coach paw was a pitching coach. Hitting is not his specialty. We've just been unlucky with a couple pitchers going to the majors instead of auburn.

who is the arm you speak of at pelham?

I thought Auburn's coach is known for great pitching? I remember when LSU fans wanted him when he was at CofC, and he opnely wanted the LSU job.
LSU did a fantastic job snagging Maineri, but Auburn made a great hire nonetheless

You beat us in Montgomery last year as well, only to lay a fricking egg against us in the SEC tournament when it actually mattered, but hey congrats on that exhibition win. It will serve you well when you fail to make it to Hoover this year.

Regular season games are exhibition games? They dont count in the win/loss column?

It didn't count as a SEC win. Yes it counts as a win on your record, but it won't help you out getting to Hoover. So in essence it was a SEC exhibition game.

Then it wasnt an exhibition win.

I think it was just a response to BamainHsv's typical brilliant retort.

Last time I checked the top 8 teams in the SEC get to Hoover. Let me know when that game figures into the standings.

Long story short.
Our bats carried us last year and the new bats, along with losing key players, has us hitting mediocre. Our pitching is mediocre to poor. Our defense is subpar to poor. That doesn't translate to winning.
I'm more pissed about defense than anything, because it hasn't been good in years, and there's no excuse for that.
