Since Bama is the other team considered being the top team in the conference, I will use them in comparison on why we should be considered to be the top team too:

We destroyed Texas A&M, who IMO was better than Michigan State and will be preseason top 10 next year.

As bad as JJ has been he will still be the most experienced qb in the league next year and if he can play as half as good as he did in the cotton bowl we will be really good. You can not teach experience. If Mettenberger beats him out his 1st year, well that just show you how good Mettenberger is.

RB position has just as much depth as any position on LSU's team. Everybody else on offense comes back.

The defense lose some key starters but plenty of talent to fill in.

I would pick LSU as my preseason favorite to win the west.. returning QB, quality lines, etc... Arkie losses Mallet, Auburn loses Cam, Bama loses a lot of offensive production in Ingram, Julio and McElroy, plus Darius... So if you are good enough to win the west, you are good enough to win the SEC, and then you win the MNC......

-LSU replaces their best players on defense with underclassmen who (arguably) have played just as good at times, if not better.

-LSU replaces their best RB/WR. See first statement.

-LSU's biggest competition in the West (AU/ARK/UA) replace stellar QB's and important key personnel on offense/defense.

-LSU's getting a new OC. Thank Gawd.

-With LSU's SOS, They could lose 1, maybe 2 games and still likely finish in the Top 5.
